Team Cancer Sucks is an endurance sports community on a mission. While training hard for group and personal success, we also race to raise funds to help cancer patients access the medical care they need to live. Why? Because cancer sucks!
Team Cancer Sucks started as a simple idea in 2013. Our founders AJ, Mark, Louis, Darren and Chris were looking for a way to raise funds to help cancer patients in a novel way that combined our passion for endurance sports, the camaraderie that we shared in our training for races and our desire to help cancer patients and their families as directly as possible.
The team made a splash instantly…partly due to the really “loud” racing kits that we wore.
In Memory of AJ
In March of 2015 our collective worlds were rocked at the sudden passing of AJ, our Co-Founder and inspirational leader. AJ developed liver cancer due to the Hepatitis B virus that he was born with. AJ was diagnosed with cancer only a few months after he completed his first Ironman race. The void that he has left in our hearts is ever present. He leaves behind a wife and three amazing children. Team Cancer Sucks was his dream and we honor his memory by our continued efforts to raise awareness and funds for patients and loved ones affected by cancer.
We are a small army of athletes of all skill levels and endurance goals. Whether we are running a Turkey Trot, cycling across Italy or racing a triathlon we are all fueled by our passion to help those affected by cancer. It is this passion that unites us as a team with members across the United States and helps us continue to strive forward to help others.
Feel free to reach out with any questions about the team, how to get involved or anything else.
